These assemblies include a PTFE green coated ASTM A193 Grade B7 threaded stud and two PTFE green coated ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts. These ship assembled, with a nut fastened on either end of the threaded stud.

ASTM A193 Grade B7 threaded studs and rods are made from heat-treated alloy steel designed to withstand high-temperature and high-pressure environments. These rods are commonly used in refineries, power plants, and heavy machinery. To meet the ASTM A193 B7 specification, rods must have high tensile strength, excellent resistance to mechanical stress, and be able to maintain clamp force in extreme conditions. ASTM A193 Grade B7 threaded studs and rods are often chosen for demanding applications that require reliable performance under harsh conditions.

ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts are high-tensile, internally threaded fasteners made from carbon steel. These nuts are produced using hot forging, cold forging, and machining to ensure superior strength and reliability. They are quenched and tempered to improve their mechanical properties, making them ideal for high-stress applications in industries such as construction, oil and gas, and power generation.

These B7 stud assemblies have a PTFE coating, which is commonly used for several reasons:

Reduced Friction & Easier Installation

PTFE’s non-stick surface makes bolts spin more freely, allowing consistent torque application and simpler removal. This helps prevent galling and makes assembly more efficient.

Corrosion Resistance & Chemical Protection

The coating forms a protective barrier against acids, harsh chemicals, and moisture. In offshore or other corrosive settings, PTFE can guard both the fastener and the flange or machinery it’s bolted to—especially when dissimilar metals are involved.

Food-Grade Safety & Inert Properties

PTFE is largely inert, making it suitable for food-processing equipment where contamination or chemical reaction must be minimized.

Color-Coding & Visibility

Brightly colored PTFE coatings (e.g., fluorescent yellow) assist with underwater identification on offshore rigs, enhancing safety and maintenance procedures in low-visibility environments.
